Event Description

Taking place in the intimate setting of the former Mount Carmel Monastery, Galway County Integration Team are delighted to bring prominent Community Choir Director, Róisín Mulliez to Culture Night 2025. As an established jazz vocalist, choir director and music educator operating out of Galway City, Róisín brings a rich mix of passion, experience and accessibility to her work. Helping participants to find their voice in a communal group setting, this workshop will allow attendees to embrace the joy of singing in an open and organic setting.

The Singing for the Soul project is a 2-hour workshop where Róisín will guide participants through a welcoming and nourishing evening of singing. The session begins with a grounding exercise to calm the mind and bring everyone’s attention into their breath and body. From there, Róisín leads playful vocal warm-ups and group activities that help participants let go of tension.

The main part of the workshop focuses on learning a handful of songs drawn from folk, bluegrass, and gospel traditions. These songs are carefully chosen to be easy to learn, with simple harmonies that allow everyone – regardless of experience – to join in. By the end of the session, participants will have learned three to five new, uplifting songs. No previous singing experience is needed – just a willingness to join in and share the simple pleasure of raising our voices together!
