Inspired by the legendary 1958 ‘A Great Day in Harlem’ photograph, When the Giants Gathered celebrates the musicians who shaped the story of jazz.
Performed by a Belfast-based Goliath Jazz Quartet, the programme journeys through swing, bebop and hard bop, combining classic repertoire with stories from the lives of the musicians who defined the golden age of jazz.
Accessible to newcomers and jazz enthusiasts alike, When the Giants Gathered is a celebration of creativity, community and cultural heritage – perfectly reflecting the spirit of Culture Night Belfast 2026.

Venue Information - The Black Box
The Black Box is housed in a Grade II listed building on Hill Street in the Historical Cathedral Quarter of Belfast, originally constructed c. 1850 and converted into its current usage as an arts venue in 2006.
