Event Description
Bray International Jazz Festival returns for its fourth Culture Night to the lovely St. Saviour’s Church in Rathdrum to present ‘Ebb & Flow’; saxophonist Michael Buckley’s critically acclaimed quartet.
Ebb and Flow is a new and entirely original project from the Dublin bandleader and saxophonist, who is accompanied by three of the great players of contemporary Irish jazz: Greg Felton (piano), Barry Donohue (bass) and Shane O’Donovan (drums).
The group released their debut album to critical acclaim on the Livia Label in the Spring. The music is modern, tender, and exciting, featuring daring up-tempo post-bop tunes, beautiful ballads, and imaginative improvisation.
Michael Buckley is recognised as a leading Irish jazz musician, producer and band leader. A phenomenal tenor player, he is also a much in demand producer and arranger. He has collaborated and toured with The Mingus Big Band, and played with a host of international name jazz stars including Dave Liebman, Lee Konitz, John Abercrombie, Jason Moran, Jason Rebello and Joey Baron.
Recorded in 2024 at Michael Buckley’s House of Horns Studio, ‘Ebb and Flow’ the album has been described by Jazz Irealnd as “a compelling collection of nine original compositions” that “exemplifies the modern Irish jazz landscape at its finest.”
The gig is free admission, but get there early!
