“I first came across Camus' brilliant novel L'etranger (The Outsider) which led to my abiding interest in his work and his later novels. His perception of the world has stayed with me until the present. I also developed an abiding interest in music after l picked up a guitar in my teens. This led to the parallel world of blues and jazz on the Dublin scene. These combined interests have come together in my new Jazz Happening “Camus Jazz, Seven Musical Steps to Albert Camus”. This suite explores the thematic content of seven quotations from his work.”

Tommy Halferty.

The brilliant jazz guitarist from Derry, Tommy Halferty has strong links with France through his French wife and his academic links and because of his many concerts there. This suite inspired by his interest in Albert Camus has caused him to bring a group of outstanding together to interpret his concept.

Michael Buckley, Ireland's leading jazz saxophonist has worked on many projects with Tommy. The other jazz musicians, Dave Redmond and Kevin Brady are his latest rhythm section, in his preferred format of the Jazz Guitar Trio and bring their experience.

Pianist Izumi Kimura has performed in many interesting settings since she arrived in Ireland. This one will set off her special skills. Aleka is a singer from Romania who has been living and performing in Ireland and has just released her first jazz CD. Violinist Cora Venus Lunny with her fellow violinist Una O’Kane are joined by well known cellist Una NiChanainn to provide the coloration needed by composer, Tommy Halferty.

The other involved is narrator Hugo Halferty Drochon who will bring his particular skills to completing the creation of a magical and absorbing evening.
