Event Description

Radio Hermitage is a brand new theatre show for solo dancer and a live jazz quartet, performed by the world renowned jazz dancer and actress Ksenia Parkhatskaya. Through the combination of live music, dance, historical recordings and projection you will travel the milestones of Jazz from it’s Roots to Bebop, through Charleston, Blues and Swing.

To us, life with its rhythms and cycles is dance, and dance is life"

- A.M Opoku

Created by David Duffy and Ksenia Parkhatskaya, Radio Hermitage is a one woman show with a live jazz quartet that combines dance and theatre in a unique new setting. The culmination of 6 years research, the show intertwines a history of jazz dance with the personal story of a Russian girl escaping a tragic moment in her life through a radio station. It is here she discovers jazz and embodies its many faces. Travelling the milestones of Jazz from it's roots to Bebop, through Charleston, Blues and Swing, she reveals the timeless power, depth and raw energy of African American dance and music.

"Jazz Age dance maestro Ksenia Parkhatskaya"

- LA magazine

Graceful, eccentric and full of character, Ksenia is one of the most interesting and versatile artists in the dance world today. Since her arrival on the jazz scene in 2010, her energy and style has quickly led her to becoming an international star and the most viewed Charleston dancer on the internet.

Location of event

Venue Information - Firkin Crane

Firkin Crane, the home of dance in Cork, is a place where dance artists, dance audiences and dance enthusiasts can make, see and join in dance of all kinds. Firkin Crane is unique as a resource for dance in Ireland in that it has a stage dedicated to the year-round presentation of dance.  In addition it has smaller performance spaces, an exhibition space and four dance studios, all housed in a distinctive heritage building.  These resources are important because of what they support people to do: to experiment with, to create and to enjoy dance in its many forms.
