Event Description

Flappers, Dandies and Jazz Cats, grab your pearls and bowler hats and celebrate with us for Une Soirée Folle, launching In Walked Piet in roaring 2020s style!

Inspired by the life and work of Dutch artist Piet Mondrian, vocalist Emilie Conway launches her new album In Walked Piet with a special performance featuring pianist Johnny Taylor and guitarist Scott Kohlmann.

Originally commissioned by the National Gallery of Ireland to coincide with its landmark Mondrian exhibition, the project explores the artist’s deep connection to jazz and the music that inspired his creative vision. Drawing on years of research into Mondrian’s life and work, In Walked Piet combines original compositions with classic songs from the 1920s, celebrating the era that sparked the artist’s enduring love of jazz.

The evening will feature music from the new album alongside beloved standards including The Charleston, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Blue Skies, Stardust and more, bringing to life the sounds of the Jazz Age through a contemporary lens.

As Mondrian himself wrote, “All ugliness is transcended by jazz and by light.”

Originally developed for the National Gallery of Ireland, the project grew through Conway’s extensive exploration of Mondrian’s life, artistic practice and passion for jazz. Recorded at Camden Recording Studios, In Walked Piet was produced by Emilie Conway and Michael Buckley.

Blending original music, Jazz Age classics and the visual world of Piet Mondrian, In Walked Piet invites audiences into a vibrant celebration of art, modernism and jazz.
