We are delighted to share the news that Sligo Jazz Project (SJP), under the vision and leadership of Eddie Lee and his team, has been named a 2025 Jazz Forward Award recipient by All About Jazz, the world’s largest jazz website.
The Jazz Forward Awards honour innovation, discovery, and impact in jazz globally, recognising organisations, businesses, and individuals who exemplify key trends in jazz today — including global collaboration, digital innovation, educational inclusion, and community-rooted sustainability. These awards shine a light on those who are doing the often-unseen but vital work of cultivating new audiences, nurturing artistic growth, and building the infrastructure that keeps jazz thriving.
Michael Ricci, publisher of All About Jazz, explained:
“These honorees are doing the challenging work that often goes unseen: cultivating new audiences, nurturing artistic growth, and reinforcing the infrastructure that keeps jazz viable. The Jazz Forward Awards are our way of shining a light on those building the scaffolding of jazz’s future.”
This recognition is a testament to Sligo Jazz Project’s remarkable achievement in building one of Europe’s most popular and respected jazz festivals and summer schools. Since its beginnings, the festival has grown into a world-class meeting point for musicians and audiences alike, bringing international artists to Sligo, while also nurturing Ireland’s own jazz community.
What makes this award even more special is the fact that SJP has accomplished so much despite difficult funding periods — proving again and again that vision, resilience, and community support can sustain something truly extraordinary.
With their mix of stellar international faculty, student opportunities, concerts, and a welcoming community spirit, Sligo Jazz Project continues to set the standard for what a modern jazz festival can be. It is no surprise that their work is now being acknowledged on a global stage.
Looking ahead, SJP has already announced that their 2026 event will take place from 21–26 July 2026, once again promising a star-studded faculty of international and Irish musicians.
On behalf of the entire Irish jazz community, congratulations to Eddie Lee and the Sligo Jazz Project team on this well-deserved recognition. You have made a lasting impact on jazz in Ireland and beyond, and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones with you.
