SOME OTHER BLUES features pianist Noel Kelehan and guitarist Louis Stewart in a duo performance of 8 Jazz standards and a Kelehan original ballad. Piano/guitar duos are a rare phenomenon, best known from Jim Hall and Bill Evans, both of whom were much admired, and equally matched here, by Stewart and Kelehan,
The album was recorded in 1977, in the same studio as Louis Stewart's landmark OUT ON HIS OWN album. Here they go toe to toe on 7 uptempo tunes from Gigi Gryce, Jon Coltrane, Tadd Dameron, Jerome Kern and others, and 2 ballads, one by Noel Kelehan.
The SOME OTHER BLUES masters were rediscovered during the reactivation of Livia Records in 2022. This is the first release of this gem, representing perhaps some of the best Irish Jazz performances ever recorded.
SOME OTHER BLUES is a Holy Grail of Irish jazz. Enjoy.
