Newpark Academy of Music Masterclass Series presents NYC guitarist Dan Nicholas. A protégé of Barry Harris, Dan has lit up stages from North Sea Jazz Festival to Ronnie Scott’s & Duc des Lombard.
Guitarist Dan Nicholas honed his craft in New York City, spending his formative years studying with piano master Barry Harris while fully immersing himself in the city’s vibrant jazz scene. Grounded in the bebop tradition and shaped by the energy of New York’s clubs and jam sessions, Nicholas developed a deep respect for swing, melody, and the blues.
In the early 2000s, he relocated to Europe, where his reputation quickly grew.
He has performed at major venues and international festivals including the North Sea Jazz Festival, London’s Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, and Paris’s Duc des Lombards, captivating audiences with his dynamic sound and authentic jazz spirit.Rooted in bebop and swing with a soulful, blues-infused edge, Nicholas moves effortlessly between hard-driving small-group jazz, groove-heavy organ ensembles, intimate solo pertormances, and sensitive vocal accompaniment.
His versatility and deep musicality have led to collaborations with leading artists such as Jeremy Pelt, Ed Cherry, Joy Brown, Gary Smulyan, Mike LeDonne, Grant Stewart, and Leon Parker, among many others.
