Rendezvous Jazz Club invites you to join us for Conor Guilfoyle Quartet at The Venue at Walters. Step into a world of west coast jazz and California cool here in Dún Laoghaire.
Conor Guilfoyle Quartet presents the music of Gerry Mulligan and Chet Baker.
West coast jazz or cool jazz as it became known, was a response to the frenetic sounds of bebop and hardbop that was being played in New York. With it’s California cool and emphasis on the arrangements rather than just the soloist, it was associated with the beach culture of the emerging young artists of the 1950s. No other band evokes this sound and era more than the Mulligan/Baker quartet, which used neither piano or guitar, something that was unique for the time and still rare today. Add in the interweaving lines of the baritone sax and trumpet, and you get a unique texture that still sounds fresh. This quartet, all of whom are members of Conor’s renowned octet rework these classic tunes and add their own unique arrangements.
Led by Conor on drums, it includes:
Kelan Walsh on baritone sax
Bill Blackmore on trumpet
Barry Rycraft on bass.
Expect a night of swinging music, slick arrangements and fine soloing from some of Ireland’s leading jazz musicians.
