Event Description

Ted Piltzecker has performed at festivals and clubs throughout the US and around the globe. His playing and writing have been influential in both the percussion and jazz worlds. His current release entitled "Vibes On A Breath", a swinging septet with four horns, vibes, bass, and drums, was released on August 18, 2023. Only out a few days as of this writing, reviews have been extremely positive and airplay is rising quickly.

“The intimacy of the approach along with the addition of bass clarinet and flugelhorn doubles adds an extra layer of richness and color to the already mesmerizing arrangements. Piltzecker's work transports to an alluring musical world where every note is infused with a personal touch”. JAZZ WEEKLY.

Ted’s last recording "Brindica" evokes musical encounters in Iceland, India, Nepal, and Bali. "Piltzecker writes and arranges tunes that draw on tango, second-line, Afro-Cuban, South African, and even carnatic influences, always in an organic, fun, and respectful way that sparkes with wit and good humor." CD HotList. Steeped in the jazz and be-bop tradition, Ted’s eclectic tastes and travels have inspired him to create music in wide variety of genres.

Ted has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York and New Jersey State Councils, Lincoln Center Institute, and the ASCAP Foundation. He is a professor emeritus of composition at SUNY Purchase, and also teaches vibraphone at the Hartt School in CT.

George Shearing Quintet veteran and graduate of the Eastman and Manhattan Schools, Ted is endorsed by Musser/Ludwig vibraphones, and Vic Firth mallets. He is a pilot for the US Coast Guard Auxiliary.
