Event Description

Celebrate the return of the generation-spanning powerhouse QOW Trio as they launch their fearless third album, The Rule of Three.

Three is the magic number". Join us for an evening with QOW Trio, a unique ensemble that bridges the gap between jazz legends and the new vanguard. Their latest work, The Rule of Three, takes the deep tradition of the classic piano-less tenor trio—steeped in melody and swing—and pushes it into the adventurous "uncharted hinterlands" of free improvisation.

From the influences of Sonny Rollins and Duke Ellington to the fierce energy of Albert Ayler and even themes from classic cowboy movies, this performance promises "a surprise at every turn," delivered with total sincerity and a driving desire to bring the audience along for the ride.

Spike Wells (Drums): A true legend of British jazz. Celebrating his 80th birthday and the 65th year of an extraordinary career, Spike has provided the beat for icons like Tubby Hayes, Stan Getz, and Roland Kirk. He was even a student of the great Philly Joe Jones.

Riley Stone-Lonergan (Tenor Saxophone): Hailing from Galway, Ireland, Riley is a Yamaha Jazz Scholar and a rising star on the London scene. His "boundless creative imagination" and stimulating original compositions are the heart of the trio's modern sound.

Eddie Myer (Bass): Representing the diversity of "Gen X," Eddie provides the "heavy gut-string" foundation. A staple of the Brighton jazz scene and director of the New Generation Jazz project, he brings a big-toned, swinging presence inspired by the likes of Richard Davis and Henry Grimes.

Celebrate the return of the generation-spanning powerhouse QOW Trio as they launch their fearless third album, The Rule of Three.

The Music
Expect a setlist that flows seamlessly through:

Originals: Such as the confident swagger of the title track "The Rule of Three".
Reimagined Classics: A "woozy waltz" rendition of Strayhorn’s Lush Life.
Wild Cards: The unpredictable, "tag-team" improvisation of Kurt Angle and the haunting energy of Ayler’s Ghosts.
