Event Description

Released in 1960, John Coltrane’s Giant Steps is considered one of the seminal albums in modern jazz history. It introduced a new level of harmonic complexity, with rapid chord changes, often called the “Coltrane changes”, that challenged and inspired generations of musicians. At the same time, the album captures Coltrane’s drive for exploration and his distinctive powerful sound, making it both a technical milestone and a deeply influential artistic statement.

John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman is a collaboration between Coltrane and the jazz vocalist Johnny Hartman. Unlike Coltrane’s more intense instrumental work, this album is about lyricism, warmth, and subtle interplay, highlightingHartman’s rich baritone voice alongside Coltrane’s expressive, tender saxophone.

Lineup:

Matthew Halpin - Tenor sax.
Brendan Doherty - Drums.
Charlie Moon - Voice.
So-Young Yoon - Piano.
