Event Description

One of Ireland's most sought after pianists, Greg Lloyd is an Irish/Australian musician fusing Jazz, Latin, Funk, Classical and North African sonorities with original instrumental compositions and improvisation to deliver a dynamic, mesmerising sonic experience that transcends cultural boundaries.

Greg has captivated audiences in Europe, Japan and Australia, exploring solo piano, trio and quartet formats within his live performances.

His debut album, ‘Long Way Home’ by the Greg Lloyd Group (Kapai Music, 2012), received rave reviews worldwide and was distributed by Disk Union Japan. Renowned Japanese jazz critic Yasukuni Terashima included a single from the album on his annual compilation of the best music of the year for Jazz Bar 2013.

Greg’s second highly anticipated album, ‘Early Train’, is fast on the way with two new singles and music videos from the album already having been released in early 2025, ‘5th Floor Up’ and ‘Petrichor’. This gig at Arthur’s on the 4th of October, 6.00pm is the third single launch from the new album.

Joining Greg on the night is Kevin Brady (drums) and Dave Redmond (bass).

This is a gig not to be missed. The music satisfies and explores all musical palettes, creating an addictive sound that leaves you wanting more.

Greg had a rare and unique opportunity to spend over a year in Algiers on two separate occasions, in 2006 and 2008, where he worked daily with the Masters of ‘Chaabi’ who had been underground since the time of the revolution of Algeria in the early 1960s. He arranged, orchestrated, composed and rehearsed this music of the Casbah, the ‘Chaabi’ or ‘popular’ music of Algiers, for the CD and documentary film ‘El Gusto’, essentially an Algerian ‘Buena Vista Social Club’. This period of filming culminated in a tour of Europe where Greg performed with the El Gusto Orchestra at the Barbican (UK) and at the Berlin Jazz Festival.

Greg also worked with the producers of Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti and Rachid Taha in France during this time and he rehearsed the El Gusto Orchestra in preparation for the recording of their album the ‘Abel Hadi Halo & the El Gusto Orchestra of Algiers’ where he worked with Damon Albarn (Blur/Gorillaz).

Greg has also studied with Joe Zawinul, Lee Konitz, John Patitucci, Mike Stern, Mark Murphy, Niels-Henning Orsted Peterson and Mike Nock.

Today Greg spends his time touring Europe and Australia performing, teaching and composing.
