A genre alchemist, Greg Lloyd blends the rich traditions of jazz with the infectious pulse of North African chaabi and contemporary textures, creating immersive, original improvised journeys that unfold in the moment. Performed live in an intimate piano trio setting, this is music with groove, atmosphere, spontaneity and plenty of soul.
Expect great vibes, killer tunes and a rare chance to experience Greg’s music up close and personal.
Classically trained before moving into jazz, Greg has been based in Dublin for two decades. His musical journey has taken him far beyond the traditional jazz circuit, including a formative stint in Algiers in 2006/07, where he arranged and performed the underground chaabi music of the Casbah for the acclaimed album and documentary film El Gusto.
He subsequently toured Europe with the El Gusto Orchestra, performing at major venues and festivals including the Barbican and the Berlin Jazz Festival, and worked alongside Damon Albarn of Blur and Gorillaz. During this period, Greg also worked with the producers and creative team who helped bring the music of Fela Kuti, Femi Kuti and Rachid Taha to audiences around the world.
Greg has also studied with Joe Zawinul, Lee Konitz, John Patitucci, Mike Stern, Mark Murphy, and Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen.
Following his acclaimed debut album, Long Way Home (2012), which was distributed by Disk Union Japan, renowned Japanese jazz critic Yasukuni Terashima included a track from the album on his annual compilation of the best music of the year, Jazz Bar 2013.
Greg released his second album, Early Train, last year to rave reviews at home and internationally. His music has taken him across Europe, Japan and Australia, performing in solo, trio and quartet settings and captivating audiences with his distinctive blend of jazz, groove, improvisation and global influences.
Now Greg is gearing up for a UK, Ireland and international tour next year, bringing Early Train to new audiences, while preparing to release his third album in early 2027 — a live recording captured in an intimate setting in front of a small audience.
