Event Description

One of the most important facets in the current jazz environment is making connections with peers from around the world, and the Jerjen/Guilfoyle quartet is a stellar example of this.

Having met at the renowned Hochschule Luzern in Switzerland, their musical relationship has blossomed over the past 3 years. They have recorded an album with Michael Arbenz and John Voirol, two of the biggest household names in Swiss jazz, and the Jerjen/Guilfoyle quartet is an extension of their partnership. Joining them in this special night of original music is Dublin based Venezuelan pianist Leopoldo Osio (CEO Experiment) and rising star Brendan Doherty (Aleka, Cloud Castle Lake, Wastefellow) on Drums.

Rafael Jerjen is was born in Basel, Switzerland in 1989 he moved to Australia with his parents in 1995. Since his return to Switzerland in 2013, he has toured regularly with various groups in Australia, Germany, Austria, Poland, United Kingdom, Denmark, and Switzerland. In 2014 Rafael recorded “Soul Station- Return” his third album as a band leader featuring some of the most renowned jazz artists of our time including Joe La Barbera (former drummer for the jazz legend Bill Evans), Grammy-Winner Bill Cunliffe, Bob Sheppard, Brian Scanlon, Kye Palmer and Bob McChesney.

Chris Guilfoyle is an up and coming guitar player on the Dublin jazz scene. He grew up in a musical family where his father Ronan Guilfoyle and uncle Conor Guilfoyle are household names in the Irish jazz scene. He leads Umbra, his own critically aclaimed quintet as well as performing with some of the biggest names in contemporary jazz such as Dave Binney, Tom Rainey, David Liebman, Ralph Peterson and Eric Ineke. As a sideman he performs with Aleka, Ronan Guilfoyle's The Long Way Around, 3G and Oxygen Theif.
