The Dublin Jazz Co-op presents The Daniel Rorke Trio on November 14th in the Vintage Room upstairs at the Workmans Club.

Rorke has lived and worked in Sydney, Melbourne, Iceland, Norway and New York. His performance career has included work with many well-known Nordic musicians such as Hilmar Jensson, Per Oddvar Johansen, Rune Nergaard, Veli Kujala, Samúel Jon Samúelsson, Sigtryggur Baldursson, Australian piano giant Alister Spence and many others.
Rorke has studied both performance and composition extensively, learning from some legendary artists such as Jerry Bergonzi, Kenny Werner, Terje Bjørklund, Jon Pal Inderberg, Henning Sommerø, Victor Morosco, Gordon Brisker, Mike Nock, Dale Barlow, Bill Motzing, Dave Panichi and Richard Toop among others. His compositions are thoughtful and unique and his saxophone playing draws widely from his diverse experiences in improvised music around the globe.
Recent recordings San'an and The Mismeasure of Man are available through Satu Musikk, and “The Dark” is available through the Norwegian record label Just For The Records.

On double bass the indefatigable Cormac O’Brien is the axel around which the whole wheel turns. He is likely Ireland’s most accomplished Jazz bassist and has been sought after by many within and beyond Ireland’s shores for his impeccable time, precise intonation and imaginative musical ear. His recent work with British musicians; pianist Kit Downes and saxophonist Stan Sulzmann was a magical moment in Irish Jazz. His CD “The Rhythm Method: By the Bye” was released in 2015 to much critical acclaim.
Matthew Jacobson is a name known to anyone interested in creative Jazz music in Ireland. With numerous projects under his belt, such as his own Redivider and the group Roamer, featuring Simon Jermyn, Matthew Halpin and Laura Kinsella, Jacobson is fast becoming a juggernaut of European creative Jazz music. His drumming is always interesting, always playing into the music. The Fullbright scholar has played a slew of important festivals and Jazz clubs and his album “ReDiviDeR meets I Dig Monk: Tuned” is out now on Diatribe Records.
The three of these musicians have been performing as a trio since 2011. Their record “The Brave Ones Have All Left Us” on SATU Records, featuring the trio plus Norwegian bassist Aksel Jensen and guitarist Shane Latimer, is a veritable journey through the looking glass of improvised music.
