Event Description
Brian Ó hUiginn is a piper and whistle player from Dublin. He has performed extensively in Ireland and abroad with Traditional and contemporary bands and as a solo performer. He has worked with contemporary electro-accoustic composer Roger Doyle, performing some of his music at the Wien modern, festival in Vienna, and with the Netherlands blazers ensemble, on tour in the Netherlands. He has also performed in South Africa with Baroque 2000, a Durban based Baroque ensemble.
He recorded the live Album ‘Under The Green Time’, with the Netherlands wind ensemble while touring with them and sean-nós singer Sarah Griallais. He has also played with violinist Darragh Morgan, in Ireland, Cyprus and South Africa.
He has performed many times on radio and television in Ireland both solo and with the trad / Jazz band Bevel Jenny. As well as playing pipes and whistle he is also an accomplished computer music programmer. He was a featured musician at the Snakes and Ladders festival in New York in March 2008 and was commissioned to write the piece 'Left-Handed March' for the same festival which was performed at the National Concert Hall in Dublin and in New York at Symphony Space on Broadway.
He has also performed with the Fidelio Trio in King's Place London as part of the Irish/American series; on several occasions at the Notting Hill Folk festival and solo, at performances in the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing as part of the Native Music festival, and in the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in Helsinki.
His musical interests extend from the music traditions of Ireland and Scotland to Louisiana French Music, contemporary electro-acoustic music, and popular music.
He has a big interest in mixing music traditions and experimental pieces.
For this performance he will be appearing with his own ensemble and using computer backing, electronic and acoustic pipes and whistles, guitar, fiddle, and double bass. He will be performing a range of music from Ireland, Scotland and Louisiana, as well as some of his own compositions and arrangements.
