Event Description

Dublinjazz.ie Presents at Bagots Hutton LIVE

Scott Flanigan (piano) lives in Belfast, Fabrice Mourlon (vocals) lives in Paris. While performing in various jazz venues in their respective countries, they enjoy sharing musical moments in Ireland. This encounter culminated in the recording of a duo album Together which allows for a sensitive, spontaneous and innovative approach of contemporary accessible original material, jazz standards and traditional songs.

This duo album is a milestone in a musical and human encounter that took place in Belfast in January 2015 at No Alibis Bookshop. We met through Linley Hamilton (trumpet) who with the complicity of David Torrans (owner of the bookshop) had put together a jazz night. Since then we have shared other musical moments in Northern Ireland realising our mutual love for jazz, early 20th century classical composers such as Ravel and Debussy and for our respective capital cities, Belfast and Paris. This duo album reflects the sensitiveness and spontaneity we like to express through our music. It combines contemporary original material with innovative takes on jazz standards and traditional songs.

Scott Flanigan is one of the foremost keyboard players on the Irish jazz scene. He performs both locally and nationally, and has recently performed with Van Morrison, the Ulster Orchestra, Jean Toussaint, Jim Mullen, Larry Coryell, Nigel Mooney, and Linley Hamilton.A keen composer and teacher, Scott has recently completed his Masters Degree in Jazz Performance at Dublin Institute of Technology, and is continuing education at Ulster University.

Trained early in his career as a pianist, Fabrice Mourlon later joined a vocal jazz class at the Paris suburb Pantin School of Music. In 1994 he trained as a vocalist with Italian singer Valentina Casula and was a member of her workshop for the next half-decade. He also attended masterclasses with Maria Pia De Vito and Roger Letson. With the quartet he founded in 2004, he has performed in various jazz clubs in Paris, Rome and Belfast with Richard Razafindrakoto, Thierry Tardieu, Nico Morelli, Sebastien Jimenez et Benoist Raffin.

Venue Information - Bagots Hutton

Bagots Hutton is a space that is flexible in nature, a restaurant one moment, a funky wine bar the next. It is a venue which moves away from the established idea of a different venue for shopping, eating and socialising.
