Event Description
An inaugural lecture by Conor Guilfoyle
While there are many anecdotes and memories of concerts and musicians from over the years, the history of Irish jazz is an untold story.
For the first time, Conor Guilfoyle traces the Irish jazz timeline, from the first jazz recording made in 1949 through to the 1990s, when digital took over.
Using local knowledge as well as rare recordings, photos and press taken from his personal collection, Conor will explore the origins and development of Irish jazz and its role in Irish society through the years.
You'll hear never-before-broadcast recordings, as well as ones that have not been heard since their original broadcast — often more than 60 years ago — many thought to be lost. There is also an amazing selection of photographs from the collections of some of our most famous musicians, as well as press reviews and promotional posters.
Whether you're a fan of jazz or history, this information-packed lecture is not to be missed.
