Christine Tobin “Tower of Song” “One of the most gifted and original singer/songwriters in today’s jazz world.”
BBC Music Magazine
Sligo Jazz Project welcomes the return of Dublin native Christine, an integral part of both the New York City and London jazz scenes for many years, who has recently returned to Ireland and now resides in Roscommon. “Tobin’s 24 carat voice” was how The Guardian recently described her talents, praising her both for the poetry of her compositions and the warmth of her golden voice. Her ‘Tower of Song’ repertoire includes Tobin originals alongside striking interpretations of Leonard Cohen songs (for which she won a Herald Angel Award at the 2013 Edinburgh Festival) and much more. In 2012 she won a BASCA British Composer Award and in 2014 she was awarded “Jazz Vocalist of the Year” at the Parliamentary Jazz Awards. Earlier in her career Christine won “Best Vocalist” at the BBC Jazz Awards.
