Harpist, Sorcha Mc Cague promises a special evening in the Irish Women Musician Run series. Originally from Monaghan, she studied classical and Irish harp at both the Royal Irish Academy of Music and TU Dublin. She is a past multi first prize winner at the Feis Ceoil Competition as well as recipient of numerous scholarships.
Harp is not a typical instrument in jazz music with a few historic exceptions.Since 2018 Sorcha turned her focus to performing and popularising the inclusion of the harp in the more atypical world music and improvised music setting. She has colloborrated with a host of rising jazz artists across Europe.
Last year featured in the "Kind of New" Emerging Jazz musician series in Dublin and also completed an IMC music residency at Tinahely Arts Centre focusing on her own compositions for mostly jazz quartet.
She will be joined by three outstanding musician who are no strangers to the Irish Jazz scene including Yuzuha O Halloran who was previously featured in the "Irish Women in Jazz" series. They will play some original compositions and their own arrangements of jazz standards.
