Master saxophonist Jerry Bergonzi gained worldwide recognition while playing with, two generations of Brubeck bands. He is renowned for his innovation, mastery and integrity, as a performer, composer, author and educator. In an endless series of rave reviews he is credited for his relentless drive, inner fire, total command, awesome technique, elastic lyricism, rich resonance and as a musical visionary. His music has been applauded throughout the world in all the major festivals, concert halls and venues.

Among the innumerable artists that Bergonzi has performed and recorded with are; Bill Evans, Paul Desmond, Dave Holland, Gerry Mulligan, Jack DeJohnette, John Abercrombie, Roy Haynes, Pat Martino and many more.

Michael Brecker was asked by an interviewer how it felt, at the peak of his powers and with the world at his feet, to be the king of the tenor saxophone, Brecker replied: ‘I don’t know, you’d better ask Jerry Bergonzi’

Ronan and Stephen have played together extensively during the 1980s in Ireland, and internationally, with artists such as Simon Nabatov and Jarmo Savolainen. They have been also hired together to be the rhythm section in the groups of Alan Skidmore in trio, quartet and quintet format during several years. This Dublin date is an auspicious musical reunion, with added bonus of Jerry Bergonzi, who has long been recognised as one of the great tenor saxophonists in the history jazz. The trio will play a mix of original compositions and standards.

Ronan Guilfoyle - bass

Ronan Guilfoyle is a major figure on the Irish jazz scene and has developed an international reputation as a performer, teacher and composer. Among the people he has performed with are Dave Liebman, Kenny Werner, Joe Lovano, Kenny Wheeler, Brad Mehldau, and Benny Golson.

His groups have toured widely Internationally and he has also recorded extensively, including the award winning "Devsirme" in 1997. As a composer he specialises in compositions which feature both improvised and written music, and has now a large body of work that ranges from solo piano pieces, to chamber works, to orchestral compositions.

Renowned for the teaching of advanced rhythmic techniques for jazz improvisation, his book, "Creative Rhythmic Concepts for Jazz Improvisation", is now seen as a standard text for this area.

Stephen Keogh - drums

During the 80’s he played as a percussionist with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland. At the same time he also became the drummer of choice for many visiting jazz artists, including Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Jimmy Witherspoon, Harry Edison, Pat La Barbera, and James Moody and Benny Carter. He also toured internationally with Louis Stewart during this period and appears on several albums.

At the end of the 80s, he moved to London and joined the Peter King Quartet of which he was a member for 18 years. At the same time he toured and recorded with British, European and American jazz artists, including Art Farmer, Jason Rebello, and Jean Toussaint among others. He continues to perform both on recordings and International tours with a long and growing list of major artists that reads as a who’s who of the jazz world; Johnny Griffin, Lee Konitz, Harold Land, Brad Mehldau, Mark Turner, Herb Ellis, Benny Golson, Antonio Serrano, Steve Grossman, Peter Bernstein et al. He enjoys long lasting collaborations with Charles McPherson, Bruce Barth Trio, Jerry Bergonzi, Dick Oatts and many more.
