Event Description
Each month, Improvised Music Company hosts CPD events, Cooler Clinics, at The Cooler at The Complex or online. These sessions offer artists practical tools to strengthen their careers and navigate the often-overlooked, behind-the-scenes essentials of professional life.
In this session, we’re joined by Eilish A. Hayes, a Chartered Accountant with nearly 17 years' experience across public and private sectors, including charities, the civil service, and commercial entities. Her newly established practice is dedicated to sole traders and small businesses, with a mission to make financial advice more accessible, affordable, and jargon-free.
As someone who grew up in a family steeped in Traditional Irish and Classical music (and as the sister of acclaimed conductor Sinéad Hayes), Eilish brings a rare mix of financial expertise and music industry understanding. She knows first-hand the challenges that creative professionals face when trying to manage compliance, tax, and accounts—especially while juggling performance schedules, touring, and freelance unpredictability.
This session will:
- Demystify tax and accounting for musicians and artists
- Offer clear advice on compliance and managing finances as a sole trader
- Share tips on record-keeping, invoicing, allowable expenses, and budgeting
- Provide space to ask questions in a supportive, down-to-earth setting
Whether you're navigating your first self-assessment or looking to feel more in control of your financial admin, this session is a must for any artist looking to future-proof their career. As always, there is also the option to have a consultation with a member of the IMC team. These one-to-one conversations can be on any topic that’s concerning you at the minute, from touring to funding applications, so feel free to drop in with questions in any area you think we might be able to help on.
Attendance is free, but registration is required. Sign up now to reserve your spot!
