Donegan is a fine composer, bringing highly accessible compositions with strong melodies and depth to sustain interest. You soon warm to the material, which has a relaxed and uplifting tone, then stick around for the textural interplay between four imaginative players who clearly enjoy each other’s company.
Donegan has a highly lyrical, clean and warm tone that is easy to like. He is well complemented by O’Neill and Daly’s clever drum and basslines that reward repeat listening as active accompanists. Buckley appears on four of the nine tracks, mostly on tenor saxophone but also on soprano, and has a pleasing, rounded sound, a good foil for the trio.”
