Event Description
American saxophonist Stan Getz, known as “The Sound”, was one of the twentieth century’s most influential jazz musicians. His first big break came from playing with the Woody Herman Big Band in the 1940s. With over 100 albums to his name, he is renowned as one of the all-time greats on the tenor saxophone for his warm lyrical tone and extraordinary melodic improvisation. His career spanned mostly ‘Bebop’, ‘Cool’ Jazz and Bossa Nova - which alongside Brazilian guitarist João Gilberto he sent into orbit in the 1960s.
‘Celebrating Stan Getz’ features Josh Baker on saxophone, Mateusz J. Chmielewski on guitar, Rohan Armstrong on bass, Zak Irvine on keys and Matt McCrudden on drums. Expect an afternoon of lyrical melodies, smooth Bossa Nova and driving Bebop tunes from Getz's extensive catalogue including favorites such as ‘The Girl From Ipanema’.
