Event Description

FutureJazzSeries presents...

Jason Lindner is one of the masterminds behind the sound of David Bowie’s Blackstar album. Jason is also one of the pioneers of the New York jazz/analog electronica underground and has always pioneered with his group Now vs Now, but also as producer and instrumentalist with Meshell Ndegeocello, Chick Corea, Mulatu Astatke and more.

Over the past few years, Jason Lindner has developed a reputation as one of the most interesting young jazz pianists on the New York City scene.

Formed in 2006, Now Vs Now is the realization of keyboardist/leader Jason Lindner's musical vision for a futuristic universal live band.

The band's new release, Earth Analog, topped iTunes' Jazz charts at number 1 and has been called "A manifesto in the form of an album." by Nate Chinen of the New York Times. Their debut album, Jason Lindner Gives You Now Vs Now, was produced by Meshell Ndegeocello, mixed by Bob Power (Q-Tip, Roots) and features special guests including beatboxer/emcee Baba Israel, trumpeter Avishai Cohen and Meshell Ndegeocello.

“Rhythm provides more than a heartbeat for Jason Lindner. FIt also seems to fuel his respiratory functions and digestive activity, and maybe his neurons...What matters to him is groove, however it comes.”

- The New York Times

"...an open minded kid from Brooklyn [Lindner] became one of jazz's most interesting keyboardists, with an identity spanning genres, cultures, formats and technologies."

- JazzTimes

“Will this alien music make you want to dance? Absolutely, but be warned: once you step into the group's intoxicating, alternate universe, you may find it hard to leave.”

- NPR The Checkout

"...warm, echoey electric piano, synthy sounds from outer space, rock and punk and hip-hop, and ideas from Africa and Asia. The music is weird, dreamy, unpredictable and sinister; it constantly plays with your expectactions."

- JazzTimes, Feb 2014 feature

Location of event

Venue Information - The Sugar Club

"It's a venue to die for. Wood panelled walls, plush banquette seating and a pristine sound system render the rest of Dublin's night-life cruddy in comparison."The Irish Times

After opening in 1963 The Irish Film Theatre closed its doors in 1985. It would be another 14 years before the space would be used again and so it was in August 1999 that The Sugar Club was born.
