Dublinjazz.ie are once again thrilled to bring to you Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at the Lincoln Center Orchestra. This is likely to be the last chance an Irish audience will get to see Marsalis and The Orchestra perform together after the recent announcement that Marsalis is to step down from his role as head of Jazz at The Lincoln Center in 2027 after nearly 40 years.
Remembering Louis Stewart
It is now 10 years since the passing of Ireland’s greatest-ever jazz musician, guitarist Louis Stewart. Jim Doherty has gathered together some of the musicians who worked closely with Louis to pay tribute to his memory. These include Dave Fleming, bass, Myles Drennan, drums, Richie Buckley, sax, and singer Honor Heffernan.

Triskel is delighted to welcome Laura Hyland, NAVIGATOR Jazz Artist in Residence, in partnership with Improvised Music Company.
On the final day of her NAVIGATOR residency, Laura Hyland will perform a solo set for voice and guitar, as well as sharing some work in development with fellow singers, Rebecca Collins & Eithne Ni Cathain.

Punctuate the year with a selection of seasonal Frank Sinatra interludes. In this lunchtime concert, leading Sinatra exponent Sean Hession and his stellar jazz trio perform autumnal classics from the Great American Songbook, evoking a mellow mood.

He is a member of Anthony Braxton’s ‘The New Standard’ and the Alexander Hawkins Trio, and has worked with Marc Ribot, Evan Parker, Kris Davis, Paul Dunmall, Django Bates, and Van Morrison to name but a few. Davis made his name in the improvising trio Bourne, Davis, Kane, whose debut album Lost Something (Edition Records, 2008) prompted The Guardian’s John Fordham to acknowledge the trio’s “world class status.”

Mike Nielsen, Guitarist, composer, author, inventor, Mike Nielsen is a lecturer in jazz at the Technical University, Dublin. His three main research topics include, improvisation, rhythm and microtonality. His diverse performance experience ranges from Dixieland—Modern—Microtonality. His unique style is influenced by jazz, classical, flamenco, Irish and world music genres. Featured on 25 recordings, Mike’s most notable recordings are with Dave Liebman (Ex Miles Davis) with whom he has also toured with.
Kalia Vandever (International Anthem)
Kalia Vandever (they/them) is a trombonist and composer living in New York. Praised by AllMusic as “a master musician and composer” and “a singular talent,” Vandever’s approach to the trombone is distinctive, defined by their sonorous tone and lyrical voicing. They lean into the challenges of the instrument and allow patience and melody to guide their process.

Blending deep roots in Irish traditional music with classical, jazz, and contemporary influences, Ní Bhriain and McCarthy chart a compelling sonic path through a shared musical heritage, transformed through their own creative lens. The album title, Cosán Casta, derives from the Irish words for “twisted path”, reflecting a journey both intricate and organic, rooted and exploratory.
