The Hot Box is a new radio show coming to you from www.jazzireland.ie, and presented by Donald Helme. The show focusses on setting the best of Irish jazz within the international language to which it belongs. The focus is on enjoyability, and will doubtless evolve as it goes on.

Donald Helme presented Jazz Alley on RTE Lyric fm from the station’s first week on air, each week for the following 17 years, when the show was axed, leaving a large gap in representation of jazz on the national airwaves.

Of The Hot Box Donald says the hope is that it will satisfy the huge demand for a hosted and curated nationally available programme dedicated to this most pleasurable of musical forms. “We will be covering the best of Irish recorded jazz both current and past, set in the wider context of the international scene, some new releases, and where possible check out visiting jazz musicians too”.

The Hot Box will also attempt to delve into some of the history of jazz in Ireland.

We hope to release a new Hot Box every 2 weeks so stay tuned for more as the show develops.
